U14 Shield Final
Johnstownbridge 4-2 Cappagh Og 4-1
Supporters were treated to a hugely exciting game last Sunday at the Shield Final between two evenly matched teams, Johnstown Bridge and Cappagh. Minutes into the first half Aoife Doran for Johnstown Bridge scored the opening goal followed shortly afterwards by a point from her teammate Oral Dorrity. Orla has given an outstanding performance for her side this season. The teams battled it out throughout the opening half, with Cappaghs efforts paying off with a goal just at the end of the first half.
In the second half Oral Dorrity and Shauna Beatty both scored great goals. Shauna O’Donoghue, Louise Keogh, Orla McManus and Carol Hurley for Johnstown Bridge kept the game moving at tremendous pace. For Cappagh, Joanne Mulligan in midfield gave a great performance and her teammates Laura Mulligan, Paula Shine and Catherine Neelan also has a fine game. Both teams fought with admirable energy and skill. Cappaghs efforts were deservedly rewarded with two goals and a point to level the score at the end of the second half.
This great battle continued into extra time with Oral Dorrity for the Bridge scoring a point and Cappagh quickly responding with a goal. Supporter and players alike were totally caught up in the excitement of a trilling contest. Just before the final whistle Aoife Doran scored the winning goal for Johnstown Bridge. A great performance by all – well done and thanks to both teams for a most enjoyable game. A close call – final score Johnstown Bridge 4-2 to Cappagh 4-1.
