Championship Round2
Johnstownbridge 3-08
Sallins 0-06
Cathal McNally hit a Hat Trick to help the Bridge make it two from two in the championship this year with a good win over Ballykelly in Sarsfields.
Johnstownbridge took an early lead through Padraig Hurley and Keith Cribbin
(2f) before Ballykelly got on the scoreboard courtesy of David Moore. Eoin
O’Donoghue hit back for the north Kildare side and then McNally found the
net for the first time as his shot deceived John Forde and dipped below the
crossbar.
Ballykelly centre back Ger Byrne raided to split the posts before McNally
tagged on a point a minute later. The contest was very stop start in nature
with both sidelines venting at the man in the middle. With both sides
missing chances the score was just 1-5 to 0-2 at the interval.
The second half was barely a minute old when Cathal McNally found the net
again as he rounded the ‘keeper and kept cool to place past the defenders
rushing back on the line.
The Bridge would then fail to score for over 20 minutes as Ballykelly came
back at them, but failed to really threaten.
Derek McCormack hit a free to leave five in it with ten minutes to play.
His side had wasted a number of earlier chances, but so too had
Johnstownbridge and Paul Cribbin was very unlucky to see his shot creep wide
earlier.
The Kildare minors then stood up for the Bridge as Sean Hurley swung over
from a tight angle and then Cribbin got two on the trot. There was now eight
in it and the game was as good as over. However, Cathal McNally was still on
the prowl and he fielded a ball across the square to finish from close
range.
Now we’ll all have to wait and see when the next round is on as the
Lilywhites take centre stage.
