Division 2 League
Johnstownbridge 0-10
Confey 0-10
Despite the heat sapping the energy of the players, Johnstownbridge and Confey kept the intensity going right to the very end
in this entertaining clash last Saturday.
Played in glorious sunshine both sides played some nice football with the game very much in the balance throughout the second half.
The Bridge were much more clinical in the first period as Cathal McNally and Eoin O’Donoghue got a brace of white flags each in the opening ten minutes.
Another effort from McNally saw the home side go five in front by the time the impressive Eoin Fitzpatrick opened Confey’s account.
The full-forward looked dangerous all day and he was unlucky with a goal chance earlier in the game. McNally kept Johnstownbridge ticking over
on the scoreboard, but it was Mitch McCann who got the last score of the half for the away side. Had they had their shooting boots it could have
been level as they kicked five wides on the trot. However, the boots were certainly not on so it stood 0-6 to 0-2 at the interval.
Cathal McNally kept up his scoring form a minute after the restart before Eoin Fitzpatrick hit two fine points in a row. Paul Mooney responded
for the Bridge finishing a great run.
Paul Donnelly and Fitzpatrick cut the deficit to two before he and Mooney swapped scores again. Johnstownbridge would fail to score until just
before full time as Confey staged a good comeback. Fitzpatrick was once again to the fore as he kicked another nice effort with Darragh Nolan and
Mitch McCann’s point making it all square.
Fitzpatrick then gave Confey the lead before the home side missed chances to get their share of the points.
Eoin O’Donoghue’s free did just that with a minute of normal time remaining. There was little argument at the final whistle as both sides were happy with the draw.
