Division 2 League
Johnstownbridge 2-14
Grangenolvan 1-8
Two goals, one at the beginning and one at the end of the first half, from
Cathal McNally helped Johnstownbridge overcome a Grange side who made the
trip from the south of the county to no avail.
McNally opened the scoring with a point before he ran in to beat the keeper
at the near post. A minute later Des Holton came up from corner back to slot
over a 45 to give the Bridge a three point lead.
Gary Brennan got one back for the visitors before the home side went on a
scoring spree through Aenghus Gannon, Padraig Hurley, Cathal McNally, James
O’Connor and Eoin O’Donoghue. O’Connor was the third defender on the
scoresheet.
Then just before the break Cathal McNally hit the net in near-identical
fashion as his previous green flag. At half time the score stood at 2-7 to
0-3.
The Bridge started where they left off after the change of ends with Jason
O’Keefe and McNally stretching the lead further. But Grange hit back with a
goal and a point from midfielder Timmy Doyle.
Johnstownbridge hit back with points from Eoin O’Donoghue and Hurley. Gary
Brennan and Doyle kept things interesting with scores sandwiching a Paul
Mooney point.
The youngest of the McNally boys, Kelvin, then eased over the bar before
Padraig Hurley finished the scoring for the day.
